The Champlain Library

Dear ROHCG Staff,

In July 2011, a group of hospitals within The Champlain LHIN decided to streamline the way we share resources between our libraries. Books and other print materials from the new Champlain Library, which include the Queensway Carleton Hospital, The Royal, The Ottawa Hospital, Bruyère Continuing Care, CHEO, The Cornwall Community Hospital and the Resource Centre on Aging, are now listed in a single catalogue.

The web-based catalogue can be found here: http://www2.ottawahospital.on.ca/Inmagiclibrary/AdvSearch.aspx

Staff and physicians at The Royal can borrow books from the Champlain Library for three weeks with the option to renew for an additional three weeks. This means that in addition to accessing the library holdings of The Royal’s Medical Library, you now have access to the holdings of all hospital libraries listed above. Of course, we are still here to help you in person at The Royal’s Medical Library or you can visit our virtual library on OREO. http://oreo.rohcg.on.ca/departments/library/index.cfm

For more information about this service and future activities of the Champlain Library, please contact Cathy MacLean: cathy.maclean@rohcg.on.ca , 613-722-6521 ext.6832, or Chris Penn: library@rohcg.on.ca , 613-722-6521 ext.6268.

Reliable Resources on the Internet

Knowledge Ontario has recently launched its eResources Portal, which provides easy access to many searchable databases to internet users in Ontario - no password required. Resources range from peer-reviewed articles in medical journals (full text available in some cases) to databases on business, law, literature, Ontario Government documents and much more. You can also search for general interest topics such as health, auto repair, gardening, cooking, travel, current affairs, and students from kindergarten to Grade 12 can find age-appropriate information for school projects.
